Pacific ESI, as part of its close collaborations with a number of universities, regularly offers internships that are specifically designed for undergraduate engineering student's industrial training requirements. We have previously worked with University of NSW (UNSW) students on Industrial Training placements, University of Technology Sydney (UTS) students as part of their Work Experience Programme and University of Sydney (USYD) students carrying out their Practical requirement.
There are occasionally placements for coursework Master's students for internships. Please read this document as if for both undergraduate and Master's coursework students. Master's and PhD research placements are not accepted as internships as these are negotiated directly with their university under long term research agreements.
Internships offered at Pacific ESI can be either paid or unpaid vocational placements depending on negotiation between us, the student and the respective university. However, the common factor for all our internships is that the students will never be doing hack work like coffee runs and photocopying. Rather, they are embedded with our engineers and will receive extensive practical training in the software tools and engineering practices that we deploy on a daily basis.
We work across large parts of the fluid dynamics and finite element simulation spaces including pure research, applied defence and industry driven projects. Some examples include:
- Simulation of aging marine structures life cycle and structural response to load
- Marine design at ultimate load and extreme wave conditions
- 6 DOF amphibious loading dock simulations
- Cavitation
- Wind loads and design estimation
- Numerical crash testing into both solid and liquid obstacles
- Numerical crash test dummies
- Advanced visualisation development
- Programming and software tool chains to support the above
Internships are offered at irregular intervals, generally to coincide with different university teaching and holiday calenders. As such they are generally not advertised on fixed timeframes. If you are interested in an industrial placement, please send:
- A one-page cover letter
- A one-page résumé
- A extract of your current academic transcript and enrolment
